Copper alloy foot fragment from a vessel, probably a cauldron, of medieval or post-medieval date (c.1200 - 1600 AD). The fragment is in the form of an animal foot; it is a rounded triangle in plan and section, with four slightly convex 'claws' on the upper face. The surface of the object is very rough and has a green patina. The object is 18.72mm in height, 31.67mm in width and weighs 49g.
This style of foot was popular on cauldrons from the medieval into the post-medieval period and there are many examples recorded on the database, including: NLM-69D3BE, SUR-92F0CB and SUR-E89F64. A similar example can also be seen in Egan (2010) The Medieval Household, p. 460, fig, 132.460.
