~~This is a 9th century copper alloy strap end that has an animal facemask on the forward edge. There is a slot at the rear edge whereby the strap would be inserted and riveted into place; there are two copper alloy rivets are still in place. The design on the main plate is a geometric style of two opposing arches that converge in the centre forming a double saltire. Each arch is made from a double parallel line that is interspersed with short transverse lines creating a series of small squares. The sections either side of the arches and at either end are infilled with a series of lines forming a weave pattern. This is a Thomas class A, type 1 strap end which dates it from the late 9th- 10th century.
