An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, hinged (dolphin type) brooch dating to the Roman period (c. AD 43-100). The brooch consists of the head with complete wings and the remains of a hinge in the centre at the reverse of the head. The bow arches from the head and tapers to a worn break roughly half way down the bow. The entire brooch is decorated with a series of ridges: five each on either wing with the inner most ridge bearing incised horizontal line in a rope-like motif. The bow bears a narrow and shallow central ridge with two deeper ridges in a stepped design flanking either side. The pin, foot and catchplate are all missing. The brooch has a dark green patina.
