A post-medieval (1500-1700) gilded copper alloy belt mount / strap fitting of openwork triangular form (sometimes interpreted as a 'bird in flight'), with a moulded acorn finial D-shaped in cross-section and flat to the underside) at the apex and a flat triangular knop at the centre of the short opposite edge. A flat semi-circular knop extends to either side just before the apex. The internal cut-out triangular area measures max.10.1mm wide and 11.8mm long. The edge around it has a very worn moulded decoration of raised ovals.
To the reverse are two integral spikes, bent outwards. The metal is a purplish-red in colour with traces of gilding to the front only.
The object measures 46.7mm in length, 18.1mm in max.width, 1.8mm in max.thickness, 7.3mm in max.depth (from the front to the bent spikes) and weighs 3.93g.
