Unique ID: KENT-F6397A

Object type certainty: Certain

An incomplete rounded flint scraper likely of Neolithic date (c.4000-2200 BC).

Description: The scraper survives in an irregular shape with a long rounded end and pointed recent break opposite. The dorsal face mostly covered in a light beige cortex, indicating the utilisation of a primary flake The flaking on the dorsal and the and conchoidal scarring (rippling) on the ventral face are very pronounced which suggest hard hammer technology. The majority of the edge has short, scaled semi-abrupt retouch struck from the dorsal face, where not broken and abraded which accounts for about 40% of the edge. The main broken end terminates in a hinge fracture The flint is an opaque dark grey with patches of light grey.

Measurements: 62.83mm long, 56.82mm wide, 12.31mm thick and 50.56g in weight.

Discussion: Larger rounded scrapers such as this example are a feature of the Neolithic.
