A complete medieval copper alloy open thimble or sewing ring, dating to c. AD 1500. The outside of the thimble has seven horizontal lines of rectangular indentations or drilled pits, these almost line up vertically but are irregularly placed. The inside is undecorated. The thimble measures 14.5mm in diameter on the top, and 18.3mm in diameter on the base. The ring measures 18.3mm in width.The thimble weighs 4.32g. The thimble is a light browny green colour.
A similar sewing ring can be seen in Holmes 1988, 2, figure 4.
