Copper alloy and glass brooch fragment. An oval pressed metal frame with eleven of twelve vaguely star-shaped collets equidistantly distributed along its outer band, six still occupied by rounded ruby coloured paste stones. A central oval recess has a pair of drilled holes in its base, presumably for the setting of a larger stone. A trailing vegetal motif and tiny pellets decorate the band between the collets, and there is a finely cabled outer border all around the frame. Slight traces of gilding appear on the display face only, and extend under the settings to brighten the reflectivity of the stones. The relief detail noted on the front of the band appears reversed as negative features on the back. A drawn wire catch lies at one end; the corresponding pin gear is lost at a tear at the opposite end. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern, 1875-1925.
