Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Fragment of a copper alloy Early Saxon cruciform brooch, probably Martin Type 1, dating to the period c. AD 420 - 500. Only the tip of the foot survives. It commences in an old break below which are traces of a ridged collar. The moulded zoomorphic foot in the form of an animal's head with ridged double collar at the top exhibits bulbous eyes set either side of a long triangular-sectioned head and bulbous flared nostrils with a rounded snout. A small fragment of the catchplate projects from just below the break.
