An incomplete medieval Scottish silver groat of David II (AD1329-1371) second coinage, type B1 or B3b (possibly worn D in the second quarter on the reverse) (Spink S5095 or 5097) dating to 1357/8- early to mid 1360s. Edinburgh mint. Ref: Spink 2015, pg 25

Obverse description: Crowned older head left, holding sceptre.

Obverse inscription: DAVID DEI GR[A R]EX SCOTORVM.

Reverse description :Long cross pattee with mullet of five points, voided by rosette in each quarter.

Reverse inscription: DNSP-TECTOR-MS Z LIBERTOR MS. Inner circle, VILLA EDINBVRGH.

The coin is in a good condition with a little wear on both faces. It has been clipped or broken at 10 and possibly between 3 and 6 o'clock.

Thickness 1.23mm,weight 4.2g diameter 26.45mm.
