An incomplete copper-alloy pin of probable Roman date (AD 43-410).

The lower part of the shaft is missing.

It has a plain globular (sub-spherical), almost bi-conical head and there is no collar. The shaft is circular in cross-section and has a uniform diameter throughout its length of c. 1.0mm. Close to the break there is a slight bend in the shaft.

This pin is green overall and the break is old.

Length: 16.7mm; diameter of head: 5.0mm; height of head: c. 4.1mm. Weight: 0.54g.

The Finds Recording Guide (Geake, 2001) suggests that pins without collars are more likely to be Roman than Early-Medieval, but they are difficult to tell apart.

Geake, H. 2001. Finds Recording Guide. Unpublished.
