BOW BROOCH

Unique ID: SF-761AED

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete cast copper-alloy fragment originating from a Trumpet type brooch dating to the Roman period, c. 75-175 AD. Only the head survives, which is broadly oval in plan and flares out towards its rear face, from which a single perforated pin-attachment lug projects. Below this, the circular-sectioned bow extends briefly before truncating abruptly in old damage. Preserved in rather poor condition, it survives to a length of 14.05mm, 14.16mm in width at the head, and 2.99mm thick at the truncated end of the bow. It weighs 2.22g.

An identical fragment of a Trumpet type brooch is recorded on the PAS database, see record SWYOR-FC2994.
