Copper alloy badge. Die-stamped lapel or uniform badge of the Boy Scouts, featuring a lis with a star punched in each side petal, and with an inverted crescentic attachment at the end of a short lug brazed to the back. The Boy Scouts were founded by Baden Powell, inspired by the activities of paramilitary defenders under his command at the siege of Mafeking, a well-publicised episode in the Boer War. The Boy Scouts were founded in 1908, and have flourished ever since as a worldwide youth movement. Suggested date: Modern, 1920-1960
