Copper alloy button. Die-stamped plano-convex composite uniform button, from the uniform of the Lincolnshire Imperial Yeomanry. A central heraldic shield bears the Cross of St George with a central lis, and the legend LINCOLNSHIRE IMPERIAL YEOMANRY around the edge in a Garter-type band. A drawn wire loop passes into the separate flat back plate. The unit was raised in 1901 to provide mounted soldiers to fight Dutch South African guerrillas in the latter stages of the Boer War. Suggested date: Modern, 1901
