A cast copper-alloy oval plate brooch dating from the Roman period, about AD 100-300. It is oval in plan, and the upper face a raised border and an inner raised concentric moulding creating a central oval recessed cell surrounded by an outer recessed band. Most of the enamel is missing but there are traces of alternate red and blue enamel in the outer band. On the rear of the brooch, the pin-lug and catchplate project, the former is incomplete. The brooch has a green patina. It measures 25.9mm long, 21.5mm wide and 7.5mm thick at the catchplate. The plate is 2.3mm thick. 4.03g.

See SF-827233 which cites Mackreth 2011, Chapter 7, Part 1, British, Volume 2, Chapter 7, group 3, p. 109, pl. 106, no. 11615. The record also says that "This form is thought to be an indigenous British development, as they do not really appear on the continent. Similar brooches are recorded on the PAS database as HESH-D7D585, IOW-030E97 and ESS-1A3153."
