Cast copper alloy fragment from a strap fitting / belt mount of post-medieval date (1500-1700). The strap fitting is broadly sub-triangular in plan with a rectangular projection emanating from the upper edge. The body of the fitting is relatively flat with a sub-rectangular cross-section. The centre of thee fitting is decorated with pierced (more likely cast) openwork; the design being formed from a central lozenge (diamond) / tear drop. The reverse of the fitting is plain and undecorated - two projecting hooks extend from the median line both are folded back upon themselves; these would have passed through the leather of the belt and have been folded back to secure it in place. The strap fitting is a mid-dark green colour with an even polished patina. The upper surface has a grey coating / sheen suggesting it was once tinned. Similar examples of hooked strap fittings are dated by Sue Margeson in 'Norwich Households' to the post medieval period, specifically the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries (1550 - 1650).
The strap fitting measures 27.0mm in length, 10.3mm width, is 5.0mm thick and weighs 2.08 grams.
