Small copper alloy buckle plate with a gilded front face, made of a piece of sheet metal folded over to fasten onto the bar of a buckle, with a semi-circular recess cut out to hold the pin. There are two copper alloy rivets set longtitudinally to fasten the buckle plate on to a leather strap, a fragment of which is still caught between the front and back plate. The plate itself is tapered from the buckle end and rounded at the opposite end.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar buckle plate with a tapered end on p.27, no.133, which is dated from c.1300-1500

Egan & Pritchard (2002) illustrate a similar plate on p.66, fig.40, no.262, which is dated from c.1350-1400.
