Roman copper alloy Wirral type brooch, 69mm long, 2mm wide, 22mm deep and weighing 25 grams.
The brooch is intact and consists of a rectangular cross sectioned, circular loop with an oval knop at its upper edge. This sits above a flat edge which is stepped and the lower portion decorated with two rows of triangular stamps. Below this the bow curves and is rectangular in form and cross section. It is decorated with three linear enamel cells, filling most of the bow. These have blue in the centre, flanked by red enamel. At the base of the bow is a semi-spherical, centrally placed knop. Below this is the foot, which is recessed, tapers in width and has a semi-circular cross section with an integral sub triangular catch plate on its reverse. This terminates in a collar above a semi-circular knop with linear incisions around its circumference on collar and knop. The brooch has an intact, hinged pin, which is heavily corroded.
