An incomplete lead-alloy toy musket of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1750. The object comprises the tubular barrel and half of the stock.
The butt of the stock has been lost to a worn break. What remains is sub-rectangular in plan with moulded decoration representing different elements of the mechanism. The trigger no longer remains.
A narrow tubular barrel extends from the front of the stock. At the junction of the stock and barrel is a circular powder pan with central touch hole.
The metal has a mid-grey patina and is worn. The object is 63mm long, 11.8mm wide, 5.7mm thick and weighs 12.7g.
Similar examples have been recorded as SUSS-C53AA6, NLM-D49553, and SUR-9EB4AA. Parallels are also shown in Forsyth & Egan (2005), p.90-96.
This is a firing toy, and would have taken small powder charges. It is unlikely that it could have been charged sufficiently to have caused any damage, nor could it have been fired with any accuracy.
