A complete, very worn, copper-alloy seal matrix dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1300-1400). The seal matrix consists of a flat circular plate with a sub-oval suspension loop with circular perforation extending from the upper edge of the reverse. The central motif on the upper surface of the seal matrix depicts two birds perched upon a chalice, bowl or fountain facing towards each other with an illegible circumferential inscription. The reverse of the seal matrix is flat and undecorated. The seal matrix measures 17mm in diameter, 6mm in thickness including the attachment loop and 2.5mm excluding the attachment loop. The seal matrix weighs 2.98 grams.
