Lead object, possibly a pot mend. It is in the form of an oval plate with one flat face. The reverse of the object has a shield-shaped protrusion which is a little off-centre; a few mm in from (and following the line of) the perimeter are arranged 7 small round protrusions. The maximum dimensions are 34.7 by 30.0mm, and the thickness at the protrusions is 7.3mm, and the plate is generally c4.3mm thick. It weighs 33.4g.
It has a well developed white patina, and could be of Roman or any post-Roman date - but it is thought that it is unlikely to be post-medieval due to the degree of patination.
