An incomplete copper-alloy cruciform brooch of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 450 - 600. All that remains of the brooch is a zoomorphic terminal, possibly in the form of a horse's head. The fragment is narrow, comprising a spatulate terminal from which the D-sectioned bow extends, terminating in a worn break.

The spatulate terminal bears moulded double banded chevron decoration extending from a central ridge. The ridge terminates in a double grooved chevron where the terminal "snout" becomes the shaft of the brooch.

Midway along the shaft, two bulbous eyes project, one to either side. Four transverse ribbed ridges are present above this. The broken end of the shaft curves upward slightly before the break. The base of the curve is decorated with a further group of four transverse ribbed ridges.

The reverse of the brooch is flat and undecorated.

The metal has a dark brown patina and is worn. The brooch fragment is 45.6mm long, 9.1mm wide, 6mm thick and weighs 6.3g.

Numerous similar example are illustrated on EEA 84 (1998), including p.133, fig.17, no.1 from Cavenham, Suffolk and p.168, fig.51, no.6 from Icklingham, Suffolk. A similar, more complete example has also been recorded on the PAS database as NMS-F01A8C.
