The fragment is 20 mm long and 23.5 mm wide, 3.5 mm thick and weighs 4.3 g. The upper and lower frame elements are 2.5 mm wide with bevelled inner edges. The inner edge of the remaining frame is vertical, with a pointed knop on the outer edge and ovoid knops at the corners. The pointed knop has a transverse groove which acted as the pin rest, but the pin is now missing. There are convex lobed protrusions at both ends of the strap bar, which is flush with the frame and trapezoidal in section. The tinning survives on the upper surface of the frame and in patches on the back of the frame.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a very similar trapezoidal buckle that is tinned on p.84, no.523, dating from c.1620-1680.2018-06-20 23:17:362018-06-21 12:11:52412018-05-112018-05-141Certain11223636PAS5B2AD2800014127331241CORNCopper alloy10627Tin or tin alloy11849CastWhite metal coatedIncompleteCorrodedPOST MEDIEVALPMx41047p0gjgrs6sgxPOST MEDIEVALPMx41047p0gjgrs6sgxMetal detectorCircaCirca90593843750244794375041427SW6728SW6728SW68NE50.10627548-5.2598921011017723DSCN6407.JPG823700trapezoidal buckleRoyal Institution of Cornwall4images/atyacke/South WestDisturbedGrassland, HeathlandEuropean RegionUnitary AuthorityCornwallUnitary AuthorityCornwallCivil Parish50.1496-5.22971WendronReturned to finder96667
