A cast pewter or high tin/lead copper-alloy incomplete single-loop D-shaped buckle with narrowed, offset strap bars and buckle plate dating to c.1250-1500
Description: The buckle frame is D-shaped, flat and lacks a notch for the pin. The strap bar is narrower than the buckle frame and offset. the buckle frame lacks a pin or buckle plate. It has a a dark grey patina with some patches of white possibly indicating that it is pewter or high tin/lead copper-alloy.
Measurements: 14.71mm wide, 10.81mm long, 2.24mm thick and 1.25g in weight.
Description: This type of buckle is frequently reported to the PAS database such as KENT-3DD069. A number of them have been recovered from archaeological excavations in London as illustrated by Egan and Pritchard (1991, 70. no. 274) dating c.1250-1450 and Whitehead (1996, 19) also illustrates a number of examples which he dates as late as c.1500.
