A bifacial lead token of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The token weighs 7.24g, has a diameter of 22.4mm and thickness of 2.8mm. Both sides of the flan have a beaded border of pellets encircling two capital letters. The pellets have a diameter of c.2.1mm. One side of the flan probably has a letter A and reversed letter G. This could be the result of the 'G' having been formed correctly on the mould resulting in the tokens being produced in that mould having reversed non-symmetrical letters. Alternatively the characters on this side of the flan might possibly be CA. The other side of the flan probably has a letter B reversed and letter T. Again it is the asymmetrical letter that is reversed suggesting an error in the mould production. Alternatively the letters on this side of the flan may possibly be IB. The pellets and letters are in relief so would have been formed in the negative on the mould.

A small aperture is present through the approximate centre of the flan. This aperture is larger and sub-oval between the 'BT', measuring 1.7mm x 1.4mm. Between the 'AG' the perforation has a more circular shape and has a diameter of c.0.6mm. It is uncertain whether this aperture is accidental or present by design.

This token is probably most likely to date to the Elizabethan period, c.AD1558-1603. See Fletcher, E., 2003. Tokens and Tallies Through the Ages Witham, Essex : Greenlight Publishing pp.28-38 & 88-92.
