An incomplete cast copper alloy skillet leg with a mounded bulbous transverse collar above a slightly pointed bifid foot designed to look like a hoof. The leg is sub-rectangular in plan and profile and plano-convex in section, with a flat back at 90 degrees to the base. One end is broken above the collar where it has been severed from the rest of the leg. There are patches of burnt organic material on the back and sides of the foot which would have adhered to the surface when the vessel was near the fire.
Height 37.1 mm, width 23.2 mm, thickness 13.3 mm, weight 40.15 g.
Read (1988) illustrates similar small legs on pages 95-96, nos.591 & 597, which date from the 16th to the 17th century.
Butler and Green (2003) illustrate similar skillet legs and feet on pages 75 & 177, nos.49 & 192, which are dated from the 17th century.
