An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy two-piece strap-end (c. 1270-c. 1450).
This strap-end has two rectangular plates with straight terminal ends and no side strips. At the attachment end both plates are crudely bevelled and have a central semi-circular aperture. There are five rivet holes (c. 1.4mm in diameter), one at each corner of the terminal end and one at each corner of the attachment end. The fifth hole is at the centre of the plates. Three rivets are missing but two survive at the attachment end. Both are dome-headed and the heads have a diameter of c. 2.8mm. The front plate is decorated with a punched border of punched 'dashes' which form lines. One of the long sides has a line of punched triangles outside the line. The rear face is flat and plain.
The strap-end has a green patina with traces of gilding on the front and back plate.
Length: 36.3mm; width: 10.6mm; thickness: 1.9mm; thickness including rivets: 5.0mm. Weight: 3.22g. (the weight includes some soil).
