A copper alloy spur attachment hook dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1300 - 1700. It has a flat, rectangular central body with a curved hook extending from the middle of each of the longer sides, the hook at the front curving upwards and that at the rear, downwards. There are faint traces of a narrow groove running around the edges of the central rectangle, suggesting that it may have been decorated, though no decoration now remains. There are also traces of gilding on the front face. The attachment is 24.9mm long, 12.8mm wide and 17.4mm thick. It weighs 3.58gm.

Other spur hook attachments are recorded on the database; see for example records NMS-D8678D, NMS-49D336 and SUR-38DC86. See also examples in Clark (1995) The Medieval Horse, on page 148. On page 149 it notes that "hook attcahments were in use from the 13th century into the post-medieval period, so that it is rarely possible to date separate attachments closely other than by their archaeological context".
