SPEAR

Unique ID: PUBLIC-A8D6EA

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete cast copper alloy middle Bronze Age (c. -1800BC to -1100BC) spearhead missing its tip and its socket. Overall, the spearhead measures 38mm long, 15mm wide and 6mm thick. It weighs 13.82g. The spear head is bent (possibly deliberately) so that it curves slightly, possibly ritually broken. The blade is worn but it appears to have had fairly straight cutting edges. The midrib measures 6mm in width, extends all the way along the blade fragment and is oval in cross-section. The copper alloy has a dark grey to black surface patina, with a faint reddish patina along each side of the midrib, on both faces. Where the edges are chipped, there is a greenish patina to the broken surface.
