A Fragment of a silver Cufflink of Post-Medieval date (AD 1662-1700). An incomplete sheet silver Cufflink element, Lewis type B. The object is circular in form with an angled rim. It has a raised outer border, inside which is a raised heart motif with a stylised flame emerging from its upper surface and two crossed arrows behind it. Its hollow underside has an integral distorted circular loop. The object forms one half of a pair of cuff links. The outer edges and a portion of the lower disk are missing due to old breaks.
Dimensions: Length: 11.02mm, Width: 11.47mm, Thickness (disk): 1.09mm, Weight: 0.5g.
Discussion: Cufflinks and buttons with this design of the double hearts and crown are thought to have been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza in 1662, but they continued to be used as a general symbol of love and marriage until the end of the century (Lewis, 2013).
