A copper alloy, Post Medieval medalet from the end of the Peninsula War campaign celebrating the exile of Napoleon to Elba in AD.1814. The medalet has been pierced at the top to allow suspension, this pierces the E on the reverse
Obverse, the devil leading a donkey with Napoleon seated on its back, a noose round his neck. Napoleon faces to the rear of the Donkey and has a depressed demeanour. legend [INSEPERABLE FRIENDS] with [TO ELBA] in exergue beneath.
Reverse, legend WE CONQUER TO SET FREE with [E]MP/ OF RUSSIA/ K OF PRUSSIA/ MARQUIS/ WELLINGTON/ PRINCE/ SCWARTZEN/BERG with MARCH 31ST 1814 in exergue.
