An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of medieval date, c.AD 1350 - 1400. The buckle is a single loop sub-oval with an expanded outer edge and a narrowed and offset strap bar. The expanded end is decorated with three central transverse grooves, the middle of which is deeper than the other two and likely acted as a rest for the pin. Transverse grooves are also present at each end of the expanded portion. Two casting sprues project to either side of the frame. The pin no longer remains.
The metal has a dark brown patina and is worn. The buckle is 18.4mm long, 20.8mm wide, 3.8mm thick and weighs 4g.
A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.27, no.139 and is dated to circa AD 1350 - 1400.
