An Early Mediveal copper alloy escutcheon from a Late Celtic hanging bowl of Bruce-Mitford Type B or C (Bruce-Mitford 2005, 11). The escutcheon is circular, slightly domed, and would have been set into a circular frame with integral hook. The convex front is decorated with a developed multi-spiral trumpet design - a criterea which Bruce-Mitford sees as demonstrating a relative late date in the hanging bowl series (Bruce-Mitford 2005, 14). The design has a central spiral with six outlying spirals, and is strikingly similar to examples from Winchester and Cumbria (Bruce-Mitford 2005, 14, fig. f). The recessed cells between the triskeles is filled with degraded emamel that is now green-brown in colour. The reverse is concave and abraded. The design is also similar to another from Caistor St Edmund, Norfolk (NMS-DFAC75).
