An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of medieval date, c.AD 1250 - 1400. The buckle is a single looped oval with a narrowed and offset bar and ornate outer edges. Two prominent knops flank five grooves on the outer edge of the loop which act as rests for the pin. The remains of a pin are looped around the bar though its tip has been lost to an old worn break.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 22.5mm long, 22.8mm wide, 4.2mm thick and weighs 3.7g.
A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead p.22, no.87 and is dated to circa AD 1250 - 1400.
