Conical lead weight of uncertain date. The base is uneven and has an upwards-curled lip runnig around the circumference. Projecting from the top is an iron shank or loop, teminating in an old break and now heavily corroded.
Weights can be difficult to date outside of a stratified context due to the fact that they are generally utilitarian objects and forms do not vary significantly over time. Weights of this form are evidenced from the Roman through to the post medieval period and numerous weight-related functions are likely, perhaps as a steelyard weight, standing weight, net weight or fishing weight.
