An incomplete copper alloy Roman (AD 43-410) mandolin-shaped spoon bowl the handle is missing.
Description: The spoon would have originally consisted of two pieces. The bowl is mandolin- shaped, narrowing into a neck, then widening again to where the handle would have attached. The top edge of this has two rounded projections between which is a triangular wedge on the rear surface. The spoon and the neck are shallowly concave rising to the flattened rim. The bowl is a shallow D shape in cross section. Across the surface of the spoon on both sides are traces of white metal coating. The spoon is a dark green brown colour.
Measurements: length: 42.21mm, width: 24.90mm, thickness: 1.1mm, weight: 4.40g.
A similar mandolin bowl spoon is illustrated in Crummy (1983, page 70, Figure 73) number 2018.
