A broken (now in two pieces), Early Medieval, copper alloy stirrup strap mount, of Williams class A, type 1, dating from about AD 1000 - 1100. There is no visible decoration. It finds its closest parallels in Williams's Class A, Type 1 mounts, with their typical pentagonal form.

It is pentagonal in form with a semi-circular suspension loop at the apex that has a single circular rivet hole. Each side of the plate has a triangular projection with small projecting knops at top and bottom; the upper knops flank the suspension loop. There are two circular rivet holes through the base, just above the flange on the reverse, at right angles to the plate. Any additional decorative elements that may have originally existed on the front face are now missing due to the heavy wear of the object. The object has a brown patina. It is 45.3mm long, 28mm wide and 5.8mm thick. It weighs 9.64gm.

Other similar examples have been recorded on the database, including KENT-E48671, WMID-1C5C09 and ESS-C36968. These examples appear to be undecorated, however, much of the decoration on examples illustrated by Williams (1997, 26-34) is very lightly inscribed and it is therefore probable these examples originally had incised decoration which has now been worn away.
