VESSEL

Unique ID: LVPL-2BE30D

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete cast copper alloy leg, possibly from medieval or post-medieval cooking pot or cauldron. The leg has two moulded furrows running vertically down the front face. The reverse of the object is flat, and where the object may have joined on to the main vessel there is a third face which is concave to fit the face of the vessel.

Cast coppor alloy vessels became popular from c. AD1100, and gradually passed out of use between 1700 and 1850, superseded by cast-iron pots and by saucepans designed for use on kitchen ranges.
