An incomplete, copper alloy, probable Pilgrim badge of the Medieval period, dating from circa AD 1475 - AD 1600.

The object depicts a male figure standing with one arm raised in the air, and one arm appears to be holding a sword at his waist. The figure appears to be wearing armour and has been decorated on both sides. The legs are very worn and are narrow. There is a semi circular loop on one side of the object which curves from the wide point of the triangluar base to the top of the figures leg. The base is triangular in shape and tapers to a narrow point. It is possible that the figure depicted is St George, and the loop which curves to the top of the leg is the Dragon. However it could depict St Michael and the Devil.

The badge measures 52.5 mm in length and is 25.8 mm wide. It has a thickness of 4.0 mm and weighs 10.0 g

The badge is a mid green in colour with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion caused by movment whilst within the plough soil has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail. A direct parrallel for this item could not be found at the time of recording, however there are a number of similar badges recorded on the database including SOM-315A8C, DYFED-796314 and WMID-FB76D0. These have been dated from the 15th to 17th century.
