Copper alloy cup weight from a nested set. The weight is circular with worn circular impressions around the rim. Cup weights were used to weight gold and silver, in the form of a coin, small objects or as scrap metal or other precious materials. Cup weights sold in nested sets are known from the thirteenth century (Saunders, 2001, p125).
