An incomplete copper-alloy strap slide of possible Roman date, c.AD 43 - 410. The object comprises a sub-rectangular plate with an integral looped strap bar to the reverse. The corners of the plate are rounded and only one arm of the bar survives, the other having been lost to a worn break.
The front of the plate is decorated with a transverse groove which extends into the remaining arm. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
The metal has a dark brown delaminated patina and is worn. The object is 25.4mm long, 15.8mm wide, 1.9mm thick and weighs 3.1g.
A similar object (but with a rivet on the reverse) has been recorded as LIN-DDFED1 and is described as possibly a piece of military equipment. YORYM-6A0881 is also similar, but has a solid cast construction with an integral bar to the reverse. Also compare the very similar SWYOR-E268E7, which has been given a post-medieval date on the grounds of the overlapping ends to the loop.
