An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy strap end, dating to the period between 8th-10th Century AD, Thomas Class A, Type 2 (see Thomas 2003: 3, nos. 5-7). The strap end plate tapers in shape, narrowing towards the terminal. The ears of the zoomorphic terminal are visible but the rest has broken off and is missing. The object has broken at the other end in an irregular fashion and is missing its attachment end, indicated by the lack of of rivet holes. The plate design is contained within a broadly rectangular border and is characterised by a series of geometric lines in the shape of chevrons. The object corresponds to Thomas 2003, part 1, Figure 1, no 5. The strap end's patina varies from a mid to dark green patina in less worn areas to a brown patina where the object is more worn. The reverse of the strap end is undecorated and broadly flat.
