A copper alloy Roman brooch fragment; the enamelled constricting collar from the head loop of a brooch, probably a headstud brooch dating from AD 75 - 200. The collar is rectangular, but corroded so the edges are rounded. A double slot in the reverse allows the wire that forms the headloop of the brooch to pass through the collar, being constricted by it to form the neck below the head loop. The front of the collar is decorated with three lozenge shaped cells of blue enamel, and flanking triangular red enamelling. Two short pieces of the copper alloy wire survive. The fragment is 13.23mm long, 7.1mm wide and 5.2mm thick. 1.61g.
