A copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from about AD 75 - 175. It has a small trumpet shaped head hiding a looped pin lug to hold the spring and pin which are now missing. There is a small projection from the top of the head. The acanthus button is very worn and is on the front of the bow only. It has a two tiers of three petals and a collar above and below. The lower bow is faceted and there is a discoidal foot. The catchplate is almost complete. Traces of red coloured enamel survive on the foot, the lower bow, the upper bow and the head, and there is also a lozenge shaped cell of blue enamel on the head. The brooch is 34.9mm long, 7.6mm wide and 15.3mm thick. 9.67g.
