BUCKLE

Unique ID: CORN-46CBD6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Incomplete cast copper-alloy double-looped plain annular buckle. The frame is circular in plan, 18 mm in diameter, 2 mm thick and 2.5 mm in height, and B-shaped in profile with straight inner edge and bevelled outer edge. The central strap bar is flush with both faces of the frame; it is 0.75 mm wide at the edges but is slightly distorted and narrower at the centre, through wear by the pin, which is missing. The surface of the buckle is slightly corroded and pitted in places but there is no evidence of surface decoration.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar annular buckles on page 45, no.256, which is dated from c.1350 to 1650.
