A copper alloy fragment of a spur of post-medieval date. The surviving fragment consists of an incomplete arm with an integral figure of eight terminal. This is where the connecting and securing buckles would have been located. The incomplete end terminates with an ancient break. The arm is D-shaped in cross-section. The perforations from the figure of eight terminal have an internal diameter of 5mm.
Dimensions: 27mm in length, 13mm in width, 3.3g
The object has a dark brown patina and is in fair condition. A similar example which has been recorded on the PAS database is LVPL-5D3F75. WAW-2BF2F2 notes that 'similar parallels are on the PAS database, HESH-668B20, WAW-B4358D and LON-63444A, and are dated to the 17thcentury. Spurs are relatively common in the later 17th century when fashion dictated they were worn as an article of dress rather than for just riding paraphernalia'.
