A complete copper-alloy buckle of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1720 - 1790. The buckle is a large sub-rectangular shape with a curved profile, bevelled edges and a drilled frame retaining a separate spindle. A loop chape with two internal spikes and pitchfork tongue is retained on the spindle.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 52.9mm long, 46.4mm wide, 4.4mm thick and weighs 25.7g.
A similar frame is illustrated in Whitehead, p.104, no.664 while the chape is paralleled in p.105, no.669 and is dated to circa AD 1720 - 1790.
