A heavily worn and corroded copper-alloy hooked mount of c.16th-17th century date, possibly sword belt related
Description: The mount is incomplete with a pointed oval plate with a projecting angular collar elongated to the now missing hook. The surface of the mount is heavily pitted and corroded with substantial concretion obscuring detail, the object is heavily mottled dark brown and light green. There is iron corrosion at the top which may indicate a corroded separate iron rivet.
Measurements: 34.8mm long, 13.88mm wide, 2.85mm thick and 3.53g in weight.
Discussion: Although heavily worn the overall form of this object fits a group of hooked mounts dating c.16-17th century illustrated by Read (2008. 219) and oft associated with sword fittings.
