A post-Medieval silver coin: a penny of Elizabeth I, second issue, dating from AD1580 - 1581. There is some edge damage and the coin has been pierced with a circular hole behind the queen's head, from the obverse. It is 13.4mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick. It weighs 0.27gm.

Notes:

This coin does not meet the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act because pierced coins of this date are known in hoards suggesting that they remained in circulation and in use as a coin despite being pierced. Therefore, the piercing alone is not enough evidence to support such coins being considered as Treasure.
