A Medieval to Post-Medieval copper alloy zoomorphic spout, probably dating to c. AD 1400-1550 and likely from an ewer. The spout terminates in a simplistic moulded dog's head with the spout projecting outwards from its open mouth. The upper snout is sub-triangular to trapezoidal in cross section and is sub-rectangular when viewed above, with a rounded, slightly lipped nose. Behind the snout the spout expands into a sub-rectangular head, with no idication of eyes or further additional detail. On either side of the head are a pair of intregal sub-rectangular ears with slightly depressed outer surfaces and which project upwards slightly. Behind the head the spout then narrows into the neck, with the lower edge then flaring pronoucedly, expanding to the edge where the spout was affixed to the vessel. The spout has a tubular cross section.

Dimensions: Length 68.3mm; width 16.8mm; thickness 52.1mm; weight 78.53g.

A comparible example is illustrated by Lewis (1987: 5, no. 8A) from Cardiff Castle's moat, given a 15th century date range. There are also numerous comparible examples on this database: e.g. SOM-FDFCBB, SOM-4A45C4, YORYM-178D04.
