A dressed stone architectural fragment of probable Post Medieval date, about AD 1500 - 1800. It is probably part of a window surround. It is a roughly rectangular block of stone with bother smaller ends broken. There is an angled groove across one face, varying in depth from 10mm - 16mm, and 7mm wide. This probably housed a pane of glass, held in an iron attachment. There is iron corrosion in the base of the slot. The opposite face has a notch cut into the corner, making the block L shaped. The notch is 27mm deep and about 13mm deep. The faces of the stone all have longitudinal grooves from the shaping process. The stone is dark grey with a bright yellow colour where damaged. It is 110mm long, 92mm wide and 73mm thick. 1728g. Compare PUBLIC-47D2D1. See also Historic England (2014) Traditional Windows.
